I love to inspire my students to find their potential and be brave . . .
My name is Stephanie Basca and I teach 2nd and 3rd grade in the Jellyfish Classroom. I hold a K-6 certification and a reading endorsement through the state of Florida. Prior to OSCS I lived in New Jersey. I graduated TCNJ in 2014 with a Bachelor's degree in education and history. I went on to be a preschool teacher in New Jersey for five years and then an associate director for a tutoring center. While at the tutoring center I received a certification for college counseling. This experience helped me see a full spectrum of education and the importance of how early childhood education can impact a child for the rest of their life.
In 2020 the pandemic called me back to the classroom and I was seeking a new adventure. I wanted to move to the Florida Keys and live life in the sun. When I found Ocean Studies, I didn't believe a school is special was real. They fit so many of my beliefs and it seemed almost too good to be true. They supported my beliefs in hands on learning and that one of our best teachers can be the environment around us.
I love teaching at OSCS because I love to inspire my students to find their potential and be brave to make memories that last a lifetime. Whether that is to brave enough to jump off the boat and see the reef for the first time or to be brave enough to persevere through academic challenges. I believe in building trust with students - they know I will be here to support them the whole time, but they know deep down I believe in their own independence.
This sense of bravery and adventure is one I have in my own life. My husband and I enjoy diving, lobstering, fishing, hunting, and traveling. I am an avid reader, yoga instructor and seek to live life to the fullest!
