I have been teaching art at Ocean Studies for 2 years. I come from an architecture and interior design background. I studied art at St. Mary's College in South Bend, IN and Architecture & Interior Design at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. I graduated with a B.S. in Architecture in 2010. Shortly upon graduating, I married my high school sweetheart and moved to Whidbey Island, WA, where my spouse was stationed with the U.S. Navy. As a Navy spouse I have lived all over the country; I even lived in Naples, Italy for 3.5 years. During our time there, we traveled around Europe, toured many amazing cities and visited as many art museums as possible. One of my favorite installations is Mosaics from Pompeii in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples.
My favorite thing to teach my art students is creativity because it is a skill that translates well beyond the art studio. Creativity is the foundation of problem solving; when we exercise our creativity, we can take our existing knowledge or skills and apply them in new and interesting ways.
